I love it. Neil Gaiman got me hooked on the Library Thing Unsuggestor, which rather than suggesting books based on the books you own, tells you what books you are unlikely to enjoy based on what you’ve read. For instance, my favourite work of modern literature is 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. If I enjoyed that book, it seems I’m unlikely to enjoy such titles as A Godward Life by John Piper and The Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert Emerson Coleman. I’m also unlikely to enjoy Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I think I can safely say they’re likely right on all those accounts.
I’m quite fond of the Nag Hammadi Library, but according to the Unsuggester, if I like such gnostic fare, I’m unlikely to enjoy The Historian by Elisabeth Kostova, a book I did read, and somewhat enjoyed, though it didn’t bowl me over or anything. And according to the unsuggester, I also won’t like The Outsiders by S E Hinton. What?!. Like most of us who grew up in the 70s, The Outsiders was the staple of our reading material, and I still have a fondness for S E Hinton’s works. And if I like the Nag Hammadi Library, I won’t like Raymond E Feist (Love’im), Orson Scott Card (him too), Kazuo Ishiguro (what!) and Margaret Atwood. The Unsuggester might be wrong sometimes, or maybe I just have extremely diverse taste in books.
If I like the Cantos of Ezra Pound - and I do - I won’t like Terry Pratchet. Never read Terry Pratchett, so I’ll reserve judgement. I’m unlikely to enjoy Stephen King (hate’im), Dan Brown (hate hate hate) and John Grisham (gag). They’re right on those accounts. I also - again - won’t like the Outsiders by S E Hinton.
I guess the ole unsuggester is touch and go at best. Or maybe… maybe it just doesn’t work for Geminis.

I tried the insuggestions (on my Blackberry-that was interesting) and apparently I won’t like anything to do with Jesus. Of course Amazon doesn’t know that because of books I bought Che. I’m still getting Jesus suggestions!
Darn this BlackBerry! It doesn’t like “un” suggestions. It prefers “in”.
