Everyone hates moving. I suppose I’ve done it the easy way the last few times, by not actually having any possessions to move. But this time I’m not talking about moving physically. I’m talking about moving Shattered Prayer to its new home at shatteredprayer.com.
IF I get a bug up my ass, I’ll be doing that tonight. So if there’s downtime here at the blog, be patient. Me, R the P, Mojo and Bas will be back on the new, fancy domain name.
And speaking of fancy domain names, the two I was giving away have now been claimed. Bas has one over at poesboes.com, and Mojo has staked his claim on a domain, but hasn’t decided what name he wants yet. This is the man who takes weeks just to open a package, so I don’t expect him to come up with anything quickly. But if anyone has an idea or two they can toss his way, then leave a comment.
I will also be moving tarot readings to extispex.net, but all this back-end work means I’m again behind on tarot readings. Meh. But with the new tarot site, I’ll be reworking how the readings are done. I hope it makes things a bit more user-friendly for both clients and for me.
Buy me a beer!

Huzzah, Che! I have made a selection. Just check your email… I know, it’s shocking. I need the pressure of a deadline to get things done. I even checked to see if my potential new domain was available. Alas, so it was! Now, with a little handholding from Che, I should be up and running soon!
Busy times ahead for all of us! It’s great to get back into HTML again… it’s been a while! Wish i new how to do it the modern way.
HA! Wish I knew how to do it at all, Bas. I haven’t done HTML (or any other xxL) in about 6 years! And I don’t remember any of it…
Hey, I offered to create a DB for Bas and install him a blogging platform or a CMS (so he could, as he puts it, do it the ‘modern’ way). But html is fun.
Back when html was all the rage, I could write it in my sleep. Zzzzzz…. speaking of sleep, I really need some.
Mojo, I am STILL waiting to hear from my host about your situation. Your domain name was too good to let slide, so I’m pouring wrath upon them.
Get you some sleep, Che… and write some code while you’re there.
No worries about the host. If they won’t allow it, we can just buy the domain name outright. What are they, like, $20 per year? No biggie.
No biggie? I could live off 20 bucks for 7 weeks! Well, maybe 5 and a half.
But no, feel my wrath, host. I demand my money’s worth. They can’t give me 150 bucks worth of credits to buy domains with, then tell me its only worth 3 domains. As you say, domains are around 20 bucks a year. In what world does 3 x 20 = 150?
Economics of free money… Rampant inflation!
Bloody capitalists! They must give you the domains!
Wow… 5 1/2 weeks… ? I need lessons. I can’t seem to make $20 last for more than a couple of days, max!
Okay, maybe not 5 and a half weeks but still. I remember when I first moved to England, and my ex was still at uni and I was awaiting my work visa and we were always strapped for cash. We somehow managed a grocery budget of 14 quid a week. Of course, I realise that 14 british pounds equals something like 8 thousand american dollars but in england a package of pasturised processed cheese food costs 1,256 dollars so I figure we were doing pretty good.
Whoa… high dollar Velveeta! Mmmm… cheesy-licious!
Currently, the conversion rate seems to be around one pound costing two US dollars. If I could get our groceries for under $30 a week, it would be a miracle. Right now, it’s about 4-5 times that amount on a good week!
Kvetching about grocery bills is dead boring, so I’ll shut it now.
Still thinking about Velveeta…. mmmm, cheese dip, or rather, “cheese” dip.
Talk about moving… nearly got hit by a 200 foot crane today!
Stormy weather and a builders crane collapsed right on the doorstep of the building i work in. Fortunately just three people got light injuries, but a colleague just had left the very room it hit; she had a workshop with 20 students. Walking back to here office she saw the thing collapse. Talk about luck!
In Dutch, but it’s got a lot of pictures:
http://www.nu.nl/news/948834/19/Bouwkraan_stort_neer_op_gebouw_in_Utrecht_%28video%29.html
(If it had fallen the other way it would have been on my roof!)
Good Lord Bas! Don’t go getting hit by cranes - we need you here.
De kraan was in gebruik bij de bouw van studentenwoningen.
I don’t know what that means. I reckon ‘de kraan’ is the crane, and ’studentenwoningen’ has something to do with students. But at least I know animal noise, some swear words, and how to order a beer in dutch. Thats all I need for my trip to the Netherlands, eh?
And Mojo, no Velveeta in England, which is a damned shame if you ask me. I’ve never quite been sure what food-group Velveeta ‘cheese’ belongs to, because it tastes more like artificially flavoured cheese candy.
Wow, just looking at the pics. That thing wreaked a lot of destruction. Glad you weren’t under it, bas!
Bas, so glad to hear you are well and that no one was killed. Those photos look terrible. The story has been picked up by AP Europe, so I can read it in English. Sounds like the storms in the NL were very strong! Stay well, Bas.
Che, I can’t believe they didn’t have Velveeta in the UK. So, prawn crisps are OK, but Velveeta is out? I agree with you: It’s not as though anyone thinks that it’s actual cheese. It’s sort of processed sweet cheese-like orange fat food product. What’s not to like?
Bas, according to the last story I read, it looks like the storm is still hanging around the NL. I hope it dissipates rapidly and doesn’t do you any (more) harm. Let us know that you’re OK when you get a chance (if you have internet)!
I haven’t seen any stories in English yet. I hope the storms aren’t too terrible (my mind always screams ‘hurricane’ when storms are mentioned). Take care of yourself Bas!
Bas, I am very glad that you and your coworkers escaped with no injuries or light injuries. That is amazing that no one was hurt. In Times Square a couple of years ago, a crane fell from a skyscraper they were building and fell into an apartment, killing a woman in her bed! That wasn’t storms, though — just general worksite incompetence.
Mojo’s comments made me think “Prawn flavored Velveeta.” Don’t know why.
And also Bas, you just revealed to Che’s hundreds of readers exactly where you work! You may have Bas stalkers after you. Or maybe some Bas fans.
Prawn flavored Velveeta?! Disgusting!!! [shuddering]
In fact, now WE know where Bas is located. There may have to be a general invasion of Bas-owned Utrecht by the ShatteredPrayerians. Perhaps Bas will have to move to the US to escape the terrible storms in Europe! Poor Bas… :-( I guess we have a few nasty storms here, too.
Oh, and here is the short English version since our Dutch is rather poor:
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L1885027.htm
Ohh wait! Velveeta is that cheese-in-a-tube? Like the Danish ones IKEA is succesfully peddling throughout Europe? They’re quite good actually. And they come in various tastes; like prawn.
Storms are subsiding. We just have gards on all seadefences, but that’s nearly standard procedure. We’re very ‘nether’. And a lot of pumping to get all the rainwater out. Trains have stopped due to debris on the tracks; which is a big thing here.
I think the UK has more trouble at the moment.
And that dutch quote translates as: “The crane was in use for constructing student housing”
We get one thousand students moving in on us. It’s being build right over the university buildings.
Later today i got a visitor coming in. I found they’d sealed the building to keep interested people out and got a call from the front desk if this person was OK… First time in twenty years
I also spoke to people who went in to the building to help out. It was a huge mess, but they are sure they got everybody out.
I got a picture up i made from a colleagues office down the hallway. It’s at:
http://www.poesboes.com/poesboes/afb001_2.jpg
Just got this new mobile with a camera built in.. It was actually the first picture i made with it.
He, he.. As for stalkers or any visitors.. Always welcome! And the coffee ain’t too bad!
Didn’t know about the post office thing.. Thanks for the link Mojo!
That debris must have come from the ‘Neudeflat’ . It’s a 70ies monstrosity office block of some twenty floors, built in the heart of our beautiful midieval city centre.
No problem, Bas. That’s a great photo on your website, especially since it’s from a mobile! In the US, our mobiles haven’t quite reached that level of quality. High resolution mobile cameras are great for just this kind of situation!
In Enlish, a ‘Nude Flat’ sounds way more interesting than your description… Too bad your nuedeflat is an architecture destroyer. What happened in the 70s anyway? The architecture for a couple of decades was just miserable.
Good luck with all the chaos in your area. To add insult to injury, they’re calling the storm ‘Cyril’.
Whew! Thanks for checking in Bas. I’m glad the storms are subsiding. Wow - just checking out the english link. Thats some storm! I hope you’re hunkered down, Bas.
And its true - I thought earlier: “now everyone is going to know where Bas works”. And we’re just the kind of people to drop in unexpectedly with suitcases and doughnuts.
See you tomorrow, Bas. Jelly-filled or cake doughnuts?
Mojo - need you ask? Boston Creme.
[...] On Moving Day by che: Mojo - need you ask? Boston Creme. [...]
Valveeta doughnuts please! I feel like living dangerous!
Cyril. Noted. What beautiful words today…
Cyril Valveeta-Dougnut, spouse to Jellyfill Bostoncreme Valveeta, revolutionairy dictator of Holebycrane.
It was actually the post office loosing rooftiles. Not the Nudeflat. I hope the post office is OK, it’s one of the most beautiful buildings i know. In stern Amsterdam school style.
No more Cyril here. But i have some great recordings of the howling winds!
I saw that the Dutch transportation ministry told people to stay off the roads. Apparently an 11 year old boy was picked up by the winds and thrown into a car, killing him. But I think it was in Germany.
In any event glad Cyril is gone! I guess the roads are open again.
I think there was an incident where three people died by a tree falling on their car. And Almere’s townhall lost a complete outer wall; just blew off the building!
Trains are still all out. Thousands of people are to find other transport.
