I just wanted to say Happy New Year to all the Chinese people and wish everyone a joyful and prosperous fire-pig year.
My mother began the year of the fire-pig with a fever. The pig set her on fire. She went to the hospital last night, leaving me to look after KK. I miss my mommy.
Actually, KK has been well behaved. However I did let her talk me into telling her ghost stories before bedtime. Then I had to sleep with her - and no one wants to sleep in a bed with a ghost under it! I also got poked in the back with KK’s elbow all night, so no sleep for me. And for a tiny little thing, she sure does take up a lot of bed.
But in my half-awake, half-asleep, prolonged hypnogoguic state, I did finally get the vision of Mercury I’ve been seeking.
My mother phoned this morning. 12 hours in the emergency room and they still haven’t gotten her admitted to a room! Thats just crazy. And this is for someone with insurance. My poor ass would be tossed out on the street I guess.
But she sounded light-years better. Her fever is down and they got some fluids into her. The fire pig has left the building.
Buy me a beer!

That’s one mean piggy to set your mom on fire with a fever! It is rather shocking to hear that she has been there for so long, but hasn’t been admitted. Perhaps her insurance, while valid, is not generous; thus, they will not approve an actual admission. Who knows with the state of modern medicine today…
Sorry to hear you had to do the sleeping-with-the-kid thing. I know when our kid slept, she used to move around almost as much as when she was awake.
Glad your mom is feeling better. Presumably, she’ll be sent home soon, probably just as soon as they get her a room.
I hope your mother gets better. By the time they get around to looking after her, maybe she’ll be well.
Then they’ll charge her $14,000 and say that it was all for things that weren’t covered.
And little kids do take up a LOT of space in bed to be so little. Many a nights I would be kicked in the face wondering what the hell are her feet doing up HERE?.
As of now, my mother STILL doesn’t not have a room. I suppose they’re trying to annoy her into getting well. It seems to be working - she’s sounding much better.
KK is spending the night with her other auntie tonight. So I needn’t get poked in the back with her pointy little elbow.
That’s just ridiculous that you mom is there with no room still. Typical, probably, but ridiculous nevertheless.
At least you’ll maybe get some time alone…
12 hours in emergency… Now THAT’s sick. I think they ought to throw some bunk beds in there. Lie down in line please!
They should have asked old Henry Ford to automate that.
Good to hear she’s somewhat on the mend though.
KK isn’t a fire pig is she? Ahh.. Or what was that.. Tormented sleepers…
