When I die, I want someone to channel me. I swear I’ll make it worth their while. I’ll be like Ramtha, but funny. And… maybe a little smarter. Anyway, if anyone wants the job of channeling my spirit, please apply here.

Hmmm… something crazy is going on with Noumenal News. Its suddenly gained some kind of wild popularity on some social networking site, and traffic has quadrupled. Quadrupled in a single day.

So the eclipse. Did anyone else have any adverse effects? I had a bit of depression, and my mother totally went off the rails. Sometimes a lunar eclipse can do that. Report your symptoms here.

Its been a while since the blender has been featured on Shattered Prayer. So I thought I’d revive blender, and begin a new series of blender recipes. Lord knows, we talk about food enough on this blog.

And for this entry in the series, I thought I’d combine the blender with our other favorite topic, the Fire Pig. So here’s Bean, Bacon and Bleu Cheese Dip:

1/4 cup chopped onion
tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
teaspoon chopped fresh or 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
(15-ounce) can navy beans, drained
garlic clove, chopped
1/2 cup (2 ounces) crumbled blue cheese
bacon slices, cooked and crumbled (drained)

Place first 7 ingredients in a blender; process until smooth. Combine bean mixture and remaining ingredients in a small bowl. Serve with pita wedges - pita always makes these things seem healthier. Ramtha has spoken.

I got a reporter from our university newspaper coming over today.. Found me on internet and was really interested what i was doing there/here.

I think i’ll drop in The Shattered Prayer

  2. Mojo on March 6, 2007 9:13 am

Look out world, here comes the newest internet craze, The Shattered Prayer!

  3. Mojo on March 6, 2007 9:15 am

Che, I would promise to channel you but I doubt I could manage it. Still, I’ll give it a shot. Of course, I doubt I’ll outlive you, but you never know. Can a spirit channel another one? Maybe we can leave the request in our will so that the Kid has to do it after we die. Fun!

BTW, that dip sounds enticing, despite the fact that I don’t WANT it do be enticing… but what can go wrong with bacon, cheese, and beans?!

  4. Richard the Previous on March 6, 2007 9:55 am

As much as I love Che, I hope Mojo outlives her. After all she is checking out on April 10, 2010. I’d hate to lose both of you in a little over 3 years.

Hmmm. That date doesn’t seem as far in the future as it once did.

We know from experience that blender quadruples traffic on the Shattered Prayer. Coupled with the new social website for Noumenal and Bas’ shout out in the university press, Che will soon be read by millions!

And yes, even I am embarrassed that I said “shout out”.

  5. Che on March 6, 2007 10:04 am

    Hey, thanks Bas!
Bas should be sainted for admitting publicly that he hangs out on Shattered Prayer. Mojo should be sainted for his nude histrionics on the Bourbon St Christian-bashing post. And Richard should be demoted for his use of the phrase \’shout out\’.

Yeah 2010 is looming closer and closer ain\’t it? I figure I\’ll either bite it on that day, or I\’ll live forever, way past the apocalypse, when all thats left is me, the cockroaches and Keith Richard.

  6. Richard the Previous on March 6, 2007 11:16 am

If all that you’ve been through ain’t killed you yet, then I think you’ll probably be living forever.

Don’t know how much fun it will be to hang out with Keith Richards and the cockroaches, but it will probably be more fun than hanging out with Don.

    And I accept my demotion.

  7. Bas on March 6, 2007 6:49 pm

Ah.. and sorry.. It’s a great blender recipe! Beans to offset the salty, bacon for the roasty, pepper and herbs&onion… great!

Can you actually channel into a blender?
    Mmm.

I don’t know. If that would be possible Patrick Swayze would have channeled into Demy’s pottery wheel in ‘Ghost’. Not very romantic.

Whoopie was very tired after channeling by the way. Do make sure to make me some power energy blender food when you pop in!

I had a lenghty talk with reporter Tim today. Of course i showed ‘The Shattered Prayer’ with me telling he’d be in and.. oh.. sorry..

    Hi Tim!

    April 10th, 2010… That’s wrong Che!
On December 21, 2010 you.. ehhmm.. never mind
Damn.. Just checked. It’s even a full Moon eclipse that day! Ha, ha, ha!!! Figures…

  8. Richard the Previous on March 6, 2007 7:34 pm

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of Whoopi when Che wanted someone to channel her!

And how in the hell did it ever happen that (with the exception of Adrienne Barbeau and her massive talents, both of them) Patrick Swayze has suddenly become the most oft mentioned celebrity on Shattered Prayer. I think in all the years I’ve known Che, we’ve never mentioned him to each other.

All those people Googling him and coming here are in for a surprise!

  9. Richard the Previous on March 6, 2007 7:37 pm

And hello, Reporter Tim! Welcome to the Shattered Prayer!

  10. Che on March 6, 2007 8:11 pm

Hey Reporter Tim! Nice to see you - have a seat, kick back, enjoy a nice cold Mojito of the Undead and have some bacon-bean dip to go with that.

Were we being effervescent and interesting when reporter Tim was here? Or were we just eating bean-dip and scratching our asses?

And R the P, you’re right, there’s way too much Patrick Swayze banter going on around here. Into the blender he goes.

Anyone ever see the Room 101 show in England? (I’m sure people in England have) We should have something like that here, call it the blender show, and each week we pick something we hate and put it into the blender.

“Hey, great idea Che!” says the SP crowd. Glad you like it. Its sort of the compliment to the blender recipes.

  11. Richard the Previous on March 6, 2007 10:51 pm

I love the “throw ‘em into the blender” idea!

    I second it.

I too wondered were we at our witty best when Reporter Tim dropped by or were we scratching our asses. It was our one chance at the Dutch College big time! Did we blow it?

  12. Che on March 6, 2007 10:56 pm

But aren’t we always witty and effervescent? Even when we’re scratching our asses? The only time I’ve known us not to be is when we’re stuck in traffic on I-75, somewhere near Bucksnort road.

  13. Bas on March 7, 2007 3:02 am

    Bucksnort’s a blender candidate then..

But Swayze? He did very much good to the emancipation of the genus ghostus.. I mean, no archetypical white tablecloth, shackles and moaning all the time? Just a droopy sod discovering he is dead.
Or is that just me, droopy sod, discovering i’m alive..
    Talking droopy sods:
Provincial elections here today. Now that’s blender fodder. Voting for the Undead.

Hey… Was Paul Merton running Room 101 when you last saw it? I think he’s doing a great job!

  14. Che on March 7, 2007 6:56 am

Indeedy, Paul Merton was doing Room 101. He was funny as hell. Is it still on? Is he still running the show? I loved that one and ‘Have I got News for You’. As far as pseudo-gameshows went.

And for non-gameshows, League of Gentlemen, The Office. And loved Red Dwarf.

And R the P is the biggest Dr Who Fan on earth)

  15. Richard the Previous on March 7, 2007 10:39 am

I am also quite the fan of The Office (even the US one, like All in the Family before them, one of the rare shows to get a good stateside translation), Red Dwarf, and the League of Gentlemen.

I would add to that list Little Britain. And even though it’s from Australia, Kath and Kim. It’s real nice. It’s different.

There are a ton of others. I lived by Georgia Public Television growing up. At the time they showed every British sitcom in production (anyone remember Agony? Excutive Stress? Bounder? Didn’t think so. How about Butterflies? Yes, Minister? Fools and Horses? They even showed the South Bank Show!)

Believe it or not, GPTV was a cultural saviour for me.

  16. Richard the Previous on March 7, 2007 10:51 am

And I must thank GPTV forever for showing Doctor Who! They even would bring in the Atlanta Dr Who fan club, the Terminus TARDIS, to answer phones during pledge breaks and dispense Who trivia. It was a geek’s paradise!

And they regularly brought in more money than any other program on GPTV. This led to their purchasing that other BBC sci fi show, Blake’s 7! That show had an incredible, and for an American, unbelievable ending! The good guys didn’t win! In fact they all pretty much died. (Apologies for the spoilers).

Alas, I hear GPTV no longer is a cultural oasis. It is just as conservative as the rest of Georgia. It is not even called GPTV any more.

    Sigh.

But I did hear they are purchasing the Eccleston Dr Who. So maybe there is hope, yet!

  17. Bas on March 7, 2007 1:55 pm

Ahh… your way in for a treat if they’d get the new Dr. Who series!!! I’ve got them both on DVD. And Eccleston.. best ever.

And i got the entire Blakes’ 7 on tape! Brilliant.
Yes minister! was super. ‘Have i got news for you’ haven’t seen it in a while. There’s some changes to the crew now i think.

    Red Dwarf’s great too!

Dutch TV buys a lot of BBC stuff, but we also get BBC1 and 2 here on cable. My favs.. next to Discovery Channel.

  18. Richard the Previous on March 7, 2007 3:24 pm

I got both the Eccleston and Tennant DVDs for Dr. Who. They really did up the bar and make some great new Dr. Who! Fantastic!

I keep waiting for Blake’s 7 on DVD. It was supposed to be released in the US three years ago and so far nothing. They used to sell the series on tape, 2 episodes per tape, but I was waiting for DVD. Sigh.

I did have two of the tapes, though. And I showed them to Mojo and he said, “You’re kidding, right?” It was the WORST episode from the series, one that relied heavily on Callie getting all “funny in the eyes.”

And for those of you who watched Blake’s 7 and are reading Che’s blog and want a visual of her, she (used to) look EXACTLY like Servalan! They’ve diverged a bit in appearance now, but for a while, they could have been sisters!

Whenever I think of Jacqueline Pearce, I cannot help but think of Che!

And for the more esoteric tv viewers out there, Che also looked exactly like a contestant on Password from the 1960s. This episode is hard to come by. You’ll have to watch GameShow TV late at night for black and white episodes of Password (The Password is “insomniac”.

The contestant was a stewardess and I am convinced she is Che’s mother. Which would make Allen Ludden her father!

Wouldn’t Betty White be angry if she found out?

  19. Richard the Previous on March 7, 2007 5:33 pm

I noticed this had 482 views, and I started wondering if Reporter Tim and the Social network had caused an increase in viewings.

I then wondered if anything else had a lot of hits, so I looked at the topics and decided “What’s in my Bajanga” (thank you Scrubs) would probably have the most hits.

    862.

There are many people curious about Che’s bajanga.

  20. Richard the Previous on March 7, 2007 5:38 pm

But The Gay Boy Disco is more popular than Che’s Bajanga!

    1252 viewings!

  21. Bas on March 7, 2007 8:15 pm

Ahhh.. SUPREME Empress Servalan!!! Gawd.. i loved that character!

You know.. I’ve only got the most modest photos of you, Che, but.. yeah!! You’re a dead ringer! Or she is.

And i was thinking about getting it myself: Blake’s 7 has been released on DVD with BBC Shop. But that’s probably PAL only.

    http://www.blakes7-guide.com/dvd.html

Oww, and yeah Paul Merton’s still in charge of Room 101. Or was, last time i saw it.
