Its true, every once in a while I get a craving for Yorkshire pudding, and I can tell you, you won’t find any of that around here. I think the next time we have a roast around here, I’m going to sneak one into the oven.
This is a simplified version of the traditional recipe:
* 1 1/2 tablespoons drippings from roast
* 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 cups milk
* 2 eggs
* pinch of salt
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Pour drippings into a 9×9 inch baking pan and place on center rack in oven.
2. In a blender, blend milk and eggs for 30 seconds. Add flour and salt and blend for two minutes.
3. As soon as drippings in oven has begun to smoke and sizzle, remove pan from oven and pour in batter. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, until golden brown and fluffy. Remove and allow to sit 5 minutes. Slice and serve immediately with roast and gravy. Yum.

I’ve never had Yorkshire pudding, but it sounds good in an odd sort of way. I love meat, and I love bready things, so I figure it must be good.
I imagine that GA is not the best place to find it, though. But who needs that when you can make your own! In a Blender!
Yes well in England the ‘nice roast’ is a very important meal. Everyone likes a ‘nice roast’, and that includes Yorkshire pudding.
And the words ‘nice’ and ‘roast’ must go together. I remember one year at work we were having a meeting to decide what sort of office christmas meal we might have. One guy said, “lets have a nice roast”
The boss: “A nice roast, does that sound good to everyone”
Employees: “Mmm… yeah, a nice roast”
Boss: “Good, we’ll have a nice roast”
Hindu employee: “Will that be beef then?”
Of course, once the roast is sitting in front of you, its no longer proper to call it a ‘nice roast’. Its now a ‘gorgeous roast’.
As in, “Oh this roast is gorgeous!”
I never did get used to the adjective ‘gorgeous’ to describe food. Naveen Andrews is gorgeous. Fish and chips… not so much.
LOL - Yeah, we used to watch ‘Two Fat Ladies’ on the Food Network and they often referred to food as lovely, nice, and gorgeous or even beautiful. Sometimes the food was still in its living and eating grass form, which was rather disturbing.
Still, a nice roast would be, um, nice.
I love to watch British Cooking on telly.. for the feel good factor!
All this talk about nice roast and yorkshire pudding has me craving dessert now.

My favorite episode of Two Fat Ladies was when they went to the Pig Farm and Jennifer looked at the still living pig and said, “Why he looks delicious!”
Mojo and I once discussed going to a Halloween party dressed as the two fat ladies, but we realized no one would know who we were.
