Okay, so I’m going to try to pry myself away from Harry Potter long enough to make a post. Here goes.

I just love R the P and Mojo.

Yep, we did have a fun time Monday night. We mostly upheld our yearly traditions, except for Mojo, who had the enchiladas rather than the giant burrito. Mmmmmm…. giant burrito.

And Richard found the issue of Lois Lane, where she marries Satan! That one so deserves to be framed! I just love those outfits.

Its always good to see them. Its just too bad they live so far away. Well… for their own sake its good that they live far from the steamy hell-pit of the deep south. But still, I’d like to see’em more often. They’re a real cheerer-upper.

Maybe I’ll move to New Jersey.

You know, I don’t think anyone ever actually says that. “I want to move to New Jersey”. Its rather one of these places that people ‘end up’. As far as I know, the only attractions to the place are the Jersey Devil, and Mojo and R the P. If Mojo and R the P were to move, the NJ tourist industry would plummet.

There’s a tour bus that rides through the state. “On your left, you’ll see the Jersey Devil. No flash photography, please. That just pisses him off and he’ll rip your head off. And if you look to your right, you can see Mojo and Richard the Previous. You’ll notice that Mojo isn’t wearing pants, but this is the week that Sagittarians go pantsless. Yes… its okay to throw food - giant burritos are a favorite, but no flash photography. You wouldn’t want them to tear your head off.”

I’m glad they’re back somewhere where the temperature is only in the two-digits, but I do miss’em. A lot. I hate suffering in this heat with no-one to complain with.

Next stop, Pottersville. Well, actually, next stop, Dinnersville. Then on to Pottersville.

    And we love Che!

Read that Potter! Read it! Read it!

    It’s good stuff.

We had such a good time. I wish Che lived nearby too. And she is right. No one moves to New Jersey. You just kind of end up here.

I have so much more to say, but I have had 3 hours of sleep and I have to go to bed. Otherwise I may just fall asleep right in the

    zzzzzz

  3. Mojo on August 17, 2007 10:07 am

Yay! Che is awesome. We too wish we could see her more often.

It’s true about Jersey. You just kind of end up here or you’ve always lived here. At least the weather is milder than in GA. I am SOOO glad to be out of that heat! It’s supposed to be 83 degrees here today, and 77 degrees tomorrow, with no rain. Sweet! Don’t mention that in February, we’ll be shoveling a foot of snow. That’s just churlish.

Thanks again for the always good times, Che!

  4. Che on August 17, 2007 10:16 am

I see no one got that the title of this post was a Seinfeld reference. (Whatdja find out, Lois?)

Wow, 83 degrees. That makes New Jersey sound like some kind of Paradise.

  5. Mojo on August 17, 2007 11:36 am

Yeah, I missed the Seinfeld reference…

NJ is some kind of paradise. Not sure which kind, but some kind…

    Next stop, Potterville.

    All Aboard!

I would lean across my window sill
And hear the whistle echoin’ across the hill
Then I’d watch the lights till they fade away
On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe!

See, being gay, Judy Garland had to show up sooner or later.

    I’ll spend my busman’s holiday
On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe!

  7. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 12:09 am

Mojo and I were laughing about my putting Judy Garland songs into SP. That led us off in a tangent and before we knew it, we were talking about Linda Ronstadt and the Manhattan Transfer before finally winding our way down to Miss Celie’s Blues.

Once, a lesbian friend of Mojo’s wanted to get some music from him, and after perusing his iTunes, she said, “You’re more of a lesbian than I am!”

When I was in college, a white girl sang Miss Celie’s blues in a talent show (do they have talent shows at college? They did at mine — I have NO idea why I went).

It was the whitest thing I have ever heard in my life.

    Ever.

    Sister,
    you’ve been on my mind
    Sister,
    we’re two of a kind
    So sister,
I’m keepin’ my eyes on you
    I betcha think
    I don’t know nothin’
    But singin’ the blues
Oh sister, have I got news for you
    I’m somethin’
    I hope you think
    that you’re somethin’ too

Well paint my ass purple and call me Sarah McLachlan. If the playlists Mojo left on this computer are any indication, he does have quite the lesbian streak. Which I find rather disturbing because he and I once discussed not liking lesbian music, and now I feel deceived and betrayed.

I remember going over to K and El’s one night, and they were playing lesbian music. K asked me, “Do you like Sarah McLachlan?”

I said, “Oh a friend of mine gave me a tape of her recently. I taped over it.”

El started laughing. Really loudly, in that way she had of laughing. Loudly, and said, “Thats what I like about Che, she’ll tell ya what she thinks!” And in case you’re wondering, she said that really loudly.

  9. stefficus on August 18, 2007 11:13 am

so what IS required listening here, other than poesboes?

the place i work has started playing country music at me. i told shirley i’d quit if they didn’t cut that shit out.

    …she thought i was joking.

  10. Che on August 18, 2007 11:16 am

I’ve been trying to get R the P to listen to decent music for years. He definitely lowers the standards for what is ‘required listening’ around here. So I’d say listen to whatever you want to. Can’t be any worse than the Pussycat Dolls.

  11. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 11:17 am

    El was really loud!

I know I’ve said this before, but she was also generous to a fault. I’d drive her a block to take her to the store and she’d give me $20 for gas.

And this was when gas was 88 cents a gallon in Georgia.

I could have driven her to Stone Mountain for that.

But who’d want to drive to racist old Stone Mountain?

Unless it was to stay in the bathroom with a drunk nude guy while you and one of your “R” named ex-boyfriends got in on in the next room.

I’d go to Stone Mountain for that.

And you’ll have to take it up with Mojo about his lesbian taste in music. There is certain lesbian music he doesn’t like, but Sarah McLachlan and he are old friends!

Adia I do believe I failed you
Adia I know I let you down
don’t you know I tried so hard
to love you in my way
    it’s easy let it go…

    We all falter.

    But does it matter?

  12. Che on August 18, 2007 11:20 am

I like the Type O Neg cover of Sarah McLachlan’s Possession. but thats about as close as I get to ole Sarah.

  13. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 11:20 am

Hey! I like what I like!

But unlike all my friends, music was never that important to me.

“It has a nice beat. And I can dance to it.”

    If I danced.

Music was always a background player for me.

Every now and then I’d become obsessed with someone like Stevie Nicks.

But that is just because I’m gay. Not because of her music.

And her label was Welsh Witch Music.

Who knew I’d marry a Welsh Witch who likes Music.

Even if it is lesbian music.

  14. Che on August 18, 2007 11:27 am

What is it with gay menz and Stevie Nicks? Is it because you all want to dress like her? Surely not in your case, R, since all you used to wear was sweatpants.

Yeah the fact that music was never important to you sort of dispels the horror that is your musical taste. If it WAS important to you, and if you HAD to listen to it, say, when I was present, then we’d have to have a long talk.

Most people identify so strongly with their own musical tastes that they’re insulted if other people don’t like it. I do love music, but I sure as hell don’t expect everyone to like what I do. So I guess thats why there’s no ‘musical standards’ here at SP. No ‘required listening’. Other than Poesboes.

  15. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 11:40 am

I even would listen to Skanky Kitty back when you liked them so much.

I mean, I can appreciate things on an intellectual level and can understand that this band’s sound directly influenced this band and so forth, but it never built a passion in me.

Though I do tend to like the sound of female voices more than male. In many genres. From Wynonna Judd to Courtney Love.

  16. Che on August 18, 2007 11:44 am

    I still like them.

But these days I’d never force anyone to listen to them. Music has become a very solitary pursuit for me. I prefer to listen actively, rather than have it in the background, and I can do that better alone.

  17. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 11:44 am

As to Stevie Nicks, I think is a combination of the drama of her music, the voice that sounds like she had been drinking a case of whiskey and smoking a carton of cigarettes, and the vibrato.

And the clothes. She even sings about her clothes.

    The summer became the fall
I was not ready for the winter
It makes no difference at all
‘Cause I wear boots all summer long

  18. Che on August 18, 2007 11:52 am

I don’t really care for women’s voices in music, which I guess is why I don’t like a lot of lesbian music. However, I do like menz that sing like wimminz. And sopranists get me major hot. ooooooo… like Jorge Cano.

    Anyhoo… *fans self*.

  19. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 11:54 am

Maybe many gay men like female voices because the women sing about liking men, and most men don’t.

And why we tend to like women with a harder edge or a sexual edge (hello Pussy Cat Dolls!)

Or maybe it’s just a coincidence.

  20. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 11:58 am

Even Mojo prefers the vox de ladies.

And with an N of 2, I can say definitively that the statistics support the notion that gay men like lady singers more than they like men singers.

  21. Che on August 18, 2007 12:01 pm

Well, gotta go help get groceries in. Ack.

  22. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 12:02 pm

    Have fun with the groceries.

  23. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 12:23 pm

Che, while you are away with the groceries, we are enjoying Tanya Tucker!

And just to open myself up to ridicule, when I was little boy, my favorite song in the whole world was . . .

    Delta Dawn.

  24. Mojo on August 18, 2007 12:53 pm

As a two second insight, I like some lesbian-affiliated music (which even that I have to be in the mood for) but I do not like the overly jangly, bitchy, we-hate-all-men-and-most-women-too stuff. That stuff sucks.

That said, I suppose I should do a few things around the house now…

  25. steff on August 18, 2007 12:58 pm

whew! ’cause the only word that can describe my musical tastes is “eclectic”. i like nearly everything except country and most rap, and i even like a few (a veeeeery few) of those. most of my mix CDs sound like they were compiled by someone’s drunk, crazy, aging uncle, his gently schizophrenic flower-child mistress, and their motocross star 15-year-old love child son.

it just makes me happy that old people glare at me as i whip into the post office with shinedown turned up to eleven, but then when i pull out of the lot blaring “dream a little dream”, they smile.

    it’s all warm and fuzzy.

i have been known to belt out some sarah while alone in my car. ’strue.

but if i ever stooped to putting her on a mix cd (which i don’t think i would ever do), she’d almost certainly be followed by avenged sevenfold or monster magent or maybe roger miller. *grin*

  26. steff on August 18, 2007 1:00 pm

oh, the new girl walks in and you stop talking. i’m gonna get a complex. heh.

delta dawn isn’t… i mean… well… um, when i was little, i knew all the words to “convoy” and would beg mom to turn it up, and…

yeah, yours is still worse. *hug* sorry. i tried.

  27. Richard the Previous on August 18, 2007 1:08 pm

    I loved Convoy!

And that is almost as embarrassing as Delta Dawn.

    But not quite.

Cause we gotta little ol’ convoy, rockin’ through the night
Yeah we gotta little ol’ convoy, ain’t she a beautiful sight?
Come on an’ join our convoy, ain’t nothin’ gonna git in our way
We’re gonna roll this truckin’ convoy, cross the USA
    Convoy… Convoy…

  28. steff on August 18, 2007 1:21 pm

convoy is better, at least in part, because of the involvement of chip davis… the same person who brought you manheim steamroller. that always cracks me up.

  29. Che on August 18, 2007 1:27 pm

Oh dear Lord, look what happens at SP when I go to put up groceries. Delta Dawn AND Convoy.

I like pretty much all kinds of music, including some country, but mostly the old pre-Nashville honkey-tonk stuff from the 1940s and 50s.

Don’t like rap too much, though some of it I like. And I don’t like a lot of pop but thats probably mostly ignorance, because I rarely turn on a radio. I almost never hear any top40. I wouldn’t be able to tellya who’s at #1 this week.

Most embarassing song I liked as a child, Grandma’s Feather Bed, by John Denver. Of course, in my hillbilly family, both my grandmothers had giant feather beds in their back rooms. My grandma on my mother’s side, her giant feather bed was often piled high with relatives, a la the song, but no pigs or hound-dogs. Fortunately. My dad’s mother, her feather-bed was in a haunted room that NO ONE would ever sleep in (though few people would talk about WHY). That was a scary fucking room, even in broad daylight.

I did once kiss my cousin in that room, however. Hey… we’re southern, of course I kissed my cousin.

  30. steff on August 18, 2007 4:46 pm

speaking of comic books (you were… i dunno, a while back), go try out wowio and then tell me which of the plethora of graphic novels they have on there are worth my time.

free book downloads. how can you go wrong? now, if i could just find time to actually read all this shit sitting on my hard drive…
