You know the tradition! On this day in history lots of interesting things happened. Some of these may have been mentioned last year, but a few bear repeating. Some are all new!
In 1187, Saladin captures Jerusalem. In 1552 Ivan the Terrible conquors Kazan. In 1835 the Texas Revolution kicks off with a bang.
In 1928, Opus Dei is founded. I just love that one. And in 1937, the War on Drugs begins with the first marijuana arrest in the US.
In 1958, Guinea tells France to go to hell.
In 1967, Thurgood Marshall become America’s first black Supreme Court Justice.
You share your birthday with the following people: King Richard III of England, Mahatma Ghandi (which was mentioned last year but is no less cool this year), Paul von Hindenburg, Groucho Marx, Bud Abbott, Graham Greene, my favorite occultist John W “Jack” Parsons, Rex Reed, Gene Autry, Tiffany (I seem to remember being horrified by that one last year), Don McLean, and James Root (of Slipknot).
Today is Yom Kippur. Its also the Catholic Memorial of the Guardian Angels, so don’t forget your Guardian Angels today. Its Independance Day in Guinea (remember - they told France to go to hell). And being Ghandhi’s birthday, its the Ghandhi Jayanti in India.
And of course the best thing to happen this day in history is the birth of Bas.
And for something new, some Numerology: You’re a number 1, numerologically, which means you are inventive, supremely creative, and you possess drive, and the strength of your convictions. You’re very kind and affectionate, and people enjoy your company. You are a wonderful friend. You have a lot of enthusiasm for the projects that inspire you, and you are an original thinker.
I’d have to say all this is true of you, and more. The interesting man with the superb musical taste that I met on eBay (of all places) has become a true friend. You’d think the invention of the internet would make it easier to find good people, but good friends are a rare treasure in this world, and I’m happy to have found one in you. I’m grateful and glad to have you in my life. Thank you for being here, thank you for being you, and have a Happy Happy birthday.
Woefjes!
