And it prolly will.

I’m what? Five days from the finish line? And I finally have an idea where my story is going. Well, ain’t that somethin’? Or it would be something if the story didn’t keep going off on wild tangents, with the tulpas taking over, rampaging all over the blank page like a bunch of.. something that.. rampages.

I’ve got 40K now, and I hate it, because its feels so close and yet so far. I want to write 10K today, so that I can finish. Finish I say!

I gotta get back to doin’ some real work before I find myself out in the snow, hungry and cold. Oh wait… it doesn’t snow around here. But when it does, dear god thats terrifying. One snowflake and we’re all rushing to the grocery store to “stock up” because we might get “snowed in”.

In most places “snowed in” means the snow has reached the top of the front door. Here, “snowed in” means “snow, any amount, because us southern hicks have no idea how to drive when there’s a thin layer of frost encroaching upon the road’s shoulder.” So we get snowed in.

Anyway, it isn’t snowing. It isn’t even cold. So I got no clue what I’m talking about. I think its the lunacy that comes with nanowrimo. Last year, it was so easy. Wasn’t it?

I seem to remember it being easy. I barely talked about it - I just sat down and wrote, and there it was. A bunch of words. They were actually even pretty good words, but the reason was, I didn’t care. It wasn’t a story that I ever planned to make something of, it was just me, fucking around, having fun. Seeing how much weirdness I could pack into 50K worth of words.

And not a goddam tulpa in sight.

Maybe thats what I should’ve done this year. But when bits of “The Lambs Book of Life” starts to make its way into my stories, and the tulpas start hovering, and the gods and demons start making demands, then it starts to become important. Gah! Important.

Not that this novel isn’t fun for me. Its loads of fun, but there’s this additional element of stress that just wasn’t there last year.

There’s also the knowledge that this year, after the 50K is written, I have to keep going. I have to write, prolly another 50K at least, then I’ll have to rearrange, edit, tweak and so forth and so on. Argh. I try not to think about it. Right now, its just about the 50K. And with that said, I guess I better get back to it.

Buy me a beer!

Keep going! Even if you have to write “The End” 5000 times. That’ll make the word count, right?

People up here in Jersey are amazed that they used to shut my school down if the weather GOT BELOW FREEZING! “Them pipes might burst and then where’ll the kids be? Wet! With ice on ‘em! They’ll die of frostbite!”

You once said we should make a Southern Horror film and call it “Snowflake!”

    It’ll sell millions.

    In the South.

Good luck with the ending, Che!

    Ending?

    What are you, nuts?

Just because I reach 50K doesn’t mean I’m at the end. Hell, 50K will prolly put me somewhere at the beginning of the middle.

    Goddam book.

Oh NO! That’s SO much writing! I can barely sign my name without getting writer’s fatigue. Pathetic, I know… Well, good luck with the… beginning -to-middle semi-completion. Doesn’t sound as interesting that way.

Yeah 50K is really more novella-sized. It sounds like a lot, and it IS a lot to do in a month, but a full-sized book it ain’t.

It is a full sized teen-aged reader book.

Like those “High School Musical” books my niece wants for Christmas.

I mean, I think some of them are like 15,000 words.
