Only a few days after the Wankening, we have Mojomas! Thats right, its Mojo’s birthday, and you know what we do on birthdays.
Mojo, ou share a birthday with Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac. I got no idea who that is, but he’s got the word “gay” in his name so I thought it fitting to mention him. And you also share a birthday with Dion Fortune (whose real name was Violet Mary Firth) an occultist who was a member of the Golden Dawn. Hey, impressive there, Mojo. Other famous folk you share your nativity with: Baby Face Nelson (cool), Agnes Moorehead, Don King, murderer Richard Speck, Tom Hulce, Pete Buck (from REM), and JoBeth Williams.
Today in History:
In 1849, Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery. Sixteen years later, on the same day, slavery is banned when the 13th amendment is ratified.
In 343, St Nicholas dies, which is prolly why today is St Nicholas day in so many countries, including Netherlands (Happy Sinterklaas day, Bas!)
In 1768, the first Encyclopedia Britannica was born, which makes sense actually. That would make Encyclopedia Britannica a Sagittarian, and Sagittarians tend to be verrah smart.
In the 2000, Werner Klemperer died. He was best known for his role as Colonel Klink on Hogan’s Heroes.
In 1877, the Washington Post is born. See… another smart Sagittarian.
1917 see the Declaration of Independence. Thats Finland’s Declaration of Independence from Russia.
In 2001, Newfoundland is renamed Newfoundland and Labrador, and no one notices. Not even the people who live there. Not even Labrador retrievers and chunks of Labradorite (which is one of my favorite stones, by the way).
Of course, the best thing to happen on this day in history is the birth of Mojo.
Mojo, I really want to thank you for being born, for making my best friend very happy, and for being such a good friend to me. Now I know how we both hate this mushy stuff but I figure once a year is okay, and I do want you to know how much I care about you and appreciate you. I hope you are having a wonderful birthday, and will have many many more.
Happy birthday Mojo!

wow. you must be a hell of a guy to make che go all mushy. of course, i’d begun to suspect that anyway.
now that you’ve probably celebrated and gone to bed, happy burfday!
It is the best day of the year because it is the day that saw Mojo come into the world!
And to celebrate the death of Santa on Mojo’s birthday I offer a secular song turned Christmas carol
Ding dong merrily on high
Mojo’s born this morning
Let’s celebrate with pie
The age of love is dawning!
Glooooooo-ria, Mojo in excelsis!
All joking aside, I love Mojo and I gladly celebrate the day that introduced him into the world!
WOW, Che. I didn’t expect such a long and wonderful post! Thanks! While you’ve rightly pointed out that mushy is not my style, I agree that once yearly is A-OK with me. And I reciprocate all your kind and thoughtful warm-fuzzies. You’re a good friend and a great person, plus a darned good webmaster to boot! Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Thanks for the well-wishing Steff. And you were right. I was a-sleeping at 12.25 AM!
Richard, well, what can I say to my own Merrily on High chorus? Yikes, mostly, but I do appreciate the revised version!
And Happy Death-Day to St. Nicholas; Happy Sinterklaas to all our Dutch friends; and a big shout out to the 13th Amendment Anniversary! Thirteen is also my favorite number, which makes it a double-shout out. Not that the abolition of slavery wasn’t enough …
But I digress. Thanks all for the kinds words and history facts and lyrical genius. I am truly blessed. Which reminds me of Brian Blessed, who I may be turning into shortly… particularly the insanity part.
BTW, I didn’t know about that Labrador bit! How odd… was it an ethic-group thing or did the dogs just get really mad that they weren’t represented? Dogs - so demanding.
I love the line In Richard’s song about celebrating with pie. Very inspiring, that.
Inspiring and true.
